At about 6:10PM, on Saturday, May 31, 2014, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) and the Youth Violence Strike Force made an onsite arrest for a firearm in the area of Intervale and Normandy Streets.

While on patrol, officers observed a group of individuals in the park in the area of Intervale Street and Coleus Park. As officers approached the group, a male individual glanced at the officers and then separated himself from the rest of the group by walking away with his right hand clutching at his front waistband area in such a way as if to suggest he may be in possession of a firearm.  In light of these observations, officers attempted to engage the individual. However, upon seeing the approaching officers, the suspect immediately fled on foot through the park. After a lengthy foot pursuit, the suspect, appearing fatigued, abruptly stopped, raised his hands and collapsed to the ground.  With the suspect in custody, officers retraced the steps taken during the foot pursuit. While conducting a search of the immediate area, officers observed and took possession of a black and silver colored firearm.

Upon further investigation, officers arrested Giovanne A. Morris, 22, of Dorchester and charged him with Unlawful Possession of Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition. Morris is expected in Dorchester District Court on Monday.
