Two Fewer Guns: Quick Acting BPD Officers Arrest One and Recover Two Guns in the South End

At about 7:20pm, on Wednesday, June 11, 2014, officers from District D-4 (South End), members of the Boston Police School Unit and Boston Public School Police were on assignment in the area 90 Warren Ave for the McKinley School Graduation when officers observed an individual acting suspiciously outside the above-mentioned location. As a result of training received enabling officers to identify characteristics consistent with that of an armed gunman, officers noted that the individual was walking in such a way as if to suggest he may have been in possession of a firearm. As a result of their observations, officers approached the individual to better understand and to further investigate their suspicions and observations. Upon seeing the approaching officers, the individual attempted to flee the area on foot. While running behind the suspect, officers observed the suspect either drop or discard an object that turned out to be a firearm. Upon catching up to and grabbing a hold of the suspect, officers were able to take possession of a second firearm found inside the suspect’s waistband.

Officers arrested Adonis Alvarez, 18, of Boston and charged him with the Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Carrying a Loaded Firearm on a Public Way.

Said Commissioner William Evans, “I continue to be impressed with the great work being done by the men and women of the Boston Police Department. In this particular case, our officers were there to maintain the peace and thanks to their smart observations and quick actions, a suspect carrying two firearms was placed under arrest.”
