At about 7:04 PM on Monday, June 16, 2014, officers assigned to the Citywide Bicycle Unit made an onsite arrest and recovered an illegal firearm in the area of 3 Bakersfield Street in Dorchester.

While on patrol in the area due to recent incidents involving gun violence, officers noticed a strong odor of burnt marijuana and observed three individuals sitting on the front steps at the above location. As officers approached the individuals, who were later determined to be trespassing, one of the individuals refused to provide proper identification. During a pat frisk of the individual for safety purposes, officers felt an object consistent with a firearm in the suspect’s front pocket. At that time, the suspect struck the officer with a closed fist and attempted to flee the area. Officers were able to apprehend the suspect before he could make good on his escape. During the struggle, the suspect attempted to access the firearm. Officers were able to gain control of the suspect and place him under arrest. Officers recovered a loaded semi-automatic Kel Tec pistol.

Officers arrested 27-year-old Anthony Rodrigues of Dorchester, 25-year-old Joshua Correia of Dorchester, and a 17-year-old juvenile of Brockton. Rodrigues was charged with Possession of a Loaded Firearm, Assault and Battery on a Police Officer, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and Possession of a Firearm with Altered Serial Numbers. Correia and the juvenile were both charged with Trespassing.
