One Less Gun: Officers Arrest One and Recover Gun in South Boston

At about 2:00 AM on Wednesday, June 25, 2014, members of the Special Investigations Unit made an onsite arrest and recovered an illegal firearm in the area of 270 West Broadway Street in South Boston.

While conducting an investigation, officers observed an unknown back male exit the above location accompanied by a black female. As officers continued their investigation, they observed what appeared to be a large object in the male’s jacket pocket. At this time, officers approached the male to inquire as to what the object was, with further investigation revealing it to be a half full beer bottle. The male became increasingly agitated with the officers and as he attempted to place the bottle on the ground, officers noticed another object in the male’s shorts. As officers attempted to pat frisk the male in an effort to identify the object, he immediately pushed the officers away and fled on foot. The suspect was placed under arrest following a brief foot pursuit. A canvass of the area allowed officers to recover a 32 caliber revolver loaded with five rounds of ammunition.

Officers arrested 34-year-old Tyre Veney of East Boston. Veney is charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Resisting Arrest, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.
