One Less Gun: BPD Officers Take Possession of Discarded Firearm in Mattapan

Early this morning, at about 12:40am, on Friday, July 18, 2014, members of the Boston Police Youth Violence Strike Force confiscated and recovered an illegal firearm in the area of 56 Kingsdale Street. While on patrol, officers observed a group of kids milling about and drinking alcoholic beverages in the area of 56 Kingsdale Street. As officers approached the group to further investigate their observations and suspicions, several members of the larger group peeled off and hurried away in a direction opposite the approaching officers. In light of the abrupt departure, officers conducted a search of the immediate area vacated by the group. While searching the area, officers observed a black plastic bag stashed behind the wheel of parked vehicle. A search of the bag enabled officers to see and seize a loaded firearm. The found firearm can be seen in the enclosed photo. The incident remains under investigation.
