One Less Gun: Officers Arrest One Juvenile and Recover Illegal Gun in Roxbury

At about 1:14 AM on Friday, July 25, 2014, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force made an onsite arrest and recovered an illegal firearm in the area of 79 Wensley Street in Roxbury.

While on directed patrol, officers heard approximately 4 apparent shots fired in the area of the Bromley Heath Housing Development. While en route to the area, officers observed three males walking in the area. Upon seeing officers, one of the individuals, who had been clutching a dark colored sweatshirt, changed his direction of travel and began to walk in the opposite direction of officers. As officers attempted to speak with the individual, who was sweating profusely and appeared to be nervous, the individual quickened his pace. Officers caught up to the individual in the area of 79 Wensley Street. A search of the area allowed officers to locate the sweatshirt in which the individual was carrying, a short distance away from the sweatshirt, officers discovered a gold Smith & Wesson 38 Special revolver loaded with one live and four spent rounds of ammunition.

Officers arrested a 17-year-old juvenile male and charged him with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Possession of a Loaded Firearm and Probation/Parole Violation.
