Daily Dose of Great Police Work: Police Arrest Unarmed Robber in Dorchester

At about 12:42 AM on Tuesday, July 29, 2014, officers from District C-11 (Dorchester) responded to a radio call for an unarmed robbery in progress in the area of the Bank of America at 1440 Dorchester Avenue, Dorchester.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with a victim who reported she had withdrawn a specific amount of money from the ATM when a light-skinned black male, about 6’1” in height, wearing a black or brown t-shirt and blue jeans approached her from behind, assaulted her, and stole her black pocket book containing the money and her black cell phone with a red case. The victim yelled for help and drew the attention of a passerby, who reported he witnessed the suspect described above with black curly hair and a goatee flee the scene with a black pocket book in his hand.

Officers canvassed the area and soon observed a male fitting the suspect’s description near Fenton Street. As officers approached, the male abruptly changed his direction in an attempt to evade the officers. Officers were able to engage the male in conversation, and despite providing false personal information to officers, he was soon identified as the suspect involved in the above robbery. Officers arrested the suspect and a search of his person revealed the specified amount of cash withdrawn from ATM by the victim and the victim’s black cell phone with red case.

Twenty-five-year-old Patrick Barbosa of Dorchester was charged with Unarmed Robbery, Assault and Battery, and Providing a False Name to Police.
