New Born Baby’s Dad Says BPD Officers Paved the Way in the Timely Arrival of His New Son

At about 5:00pm, on Thursday, July 3, 2014, officers were on patrol in the area of the Arlington & Beacon Streets near the Public Garden when a soon-to-be father and his expectant wife pulled up to the officers and said, “My wife’s in labor and we need to get to Mass General … can you help us???” After activating their lights and sirens, the officers turned to the fretful father and replied, “Absolutely. Follow us.” While en route to MGH, the escort got an even bigger boost by officers on fixed traffic posts for the 4th of July fireworks show who stopped traffic so as to assist the officers in their efforts to get momma to the hospital in time. Within minutes, officers delivered the expectant couple to the delivery room at MGH. A few days later, the indebted dad sent along the enclosed note plus a fabulous photo of his handsome new son Charlie:

“Just wanted to thank you guys again for the escort Thursday night. Saved a lot of stress and headache at an anxious time. Plus, Charlie has a great story to tell his buddies down the road. Thanks again and take care.”

Said one of the officers responsible for the escort, “Just happy to have been in the right place at the right time. Happy Birthday Charlie.”
