One Less Gun: Officers Arrest One and Recover Illegal Gun in Dorchester

At about 10:55 AM on Monday, August 19, 2014, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force made an onsite arrest and recovered an illegal firearm in the area of Dacia Street and Quincy Street in Dorchester.

While on patrol in the area of Blue Hill Ave and Brookford Street, officers observed a white motor vehicle traveling with an expired registration. Officers activated their emergency equipment (lights and sirens) and initiated a traffic stop. At this time, the vehicle pulled to the side of the road and the two occupants attempted to exit the vehicle in a hurried manner. Officers commanded the two individuals to remain in the vehicle, to which they complied. Upon speaking with the operator, officers discovered that his license had been revoked. The operator was placed under arrest. A motor vehicle inventory allowed officers to recover a black High Point Model 09 9MM Luger firearm loaded with eight live rounds of ammunition located under the driver’s seat as well as illegal narcotics. The passenger was FIO’d and released.

Officers arrested 24-year-old Vicente Matos of South Boston and charge him with Carrying a Loaded Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Firearm, Possession of Class A Drugs, Possession with intent to Distribute Class B Drugs, Operating after Revocation or Suspension, Possession of Firearm Subsequent Offense as well as multiple citations.
