Boston Police Officer Dennis Simmonds Remembered at today’s 9/11 Tribute Bike Ride

Dennis’ uncle, Larry Grant, thanked those gathered for remembering his nephew.

Today, September 11, 2014, over 300 riders representing police departments from around the region - including NYPD and Boston’s Finest - hit the road for the first day of a four day bike ride from Boston to New York to honor and remember all the police officers and first responders killed 13 years ago running towards danger while so many did their best to escape it. Prior to the ride, a check was presented to the family of Boston Police Officer Dennis Simmonds who died suddenly and unexpectedly this past year. The monies raised by officers participating in the ride will be donated to InnerCity Weighlifting, a non-profit organization created to inspire and empower at risk youth through strength and conditioning. Dennis’ uncle, Larry Grant, who was one of several family members attending today’s ceremony, offered the following, “Seeing Dennis remembered here today means a lot to our family. We miss Dennis every day and, clearly, so do his fellow brother officers. To see them remember him and honor his memory is very special to us.”
