At about 12:50 AM on Thursday, September 11, 2014, officers from District C-11 (Dorchester) made an onsite arrest and recovered an illegal firearm in the area of Dorchester Ave and Adams Street in Dorchester.

While on patrol in the area of the above location, officers observed a motor vehicle fail to stop for a red traffic light. Officers followed the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. Upon speaking with the female operator and obtaining her license, officers observed the front passenger to be traveling without his seat belt on as well as having an open container of beer in his hands. The passenger was unable to provide identification stating that he never had a Massachusetts ID of any kind. Through further investigation officers were able to verify not only the front passenger’s name but also that he had prior firearm related charges. A motor vehicle inventory allowed officers to recover a loaded US Army black and brown .45 caliber firearm located under the front passenger’s seat. The passenger was placed under arrest. Two other individuals were identified and released at the scene.

Officers arrested 30-year-old Demarcus Kirkland of Mattapan and charged him with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Possession of a High Capacity Magazine.
