At about 9:25 PM on Tuesday, September 23, 2014, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force made an onsite arrest and recovered an illegal firearm in the area of 1 Starr King Court in Charlestown.

While on patrol in the area of the above location, officers observed a large group of males gathered. Officers’ attention was drawn to two of the individuals known to officers as active gang members. Upon seeing officers, members of the group began to walk toward them, but officers noticed one of the males quickly turn around and flee in the opposite direction. While pursuing the first suspect, officers observed a second male also running away from officers clutching an apparent object in his waistband. At this time, officers separated and pursued both suspects on foot, subsequently apprehending both. Further investigation of the suspects yielded the recovery of a silver Jennings Bryco 38 firearm loaded with seven rounds of live ammunition. Officers then retraced the path in which the second suspect fled, but were unable to locate a firearm. During the booking process, the second suspect began to thrash around, and due to his weight and stature, was able to knock one of the officers to the ground, injuring him.

Officers arrested 18-year-old Keon Alston of Mattapan and 23-year-old Calvin Headley of Mattapan. Alston is charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Carrying a Loaded Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Trespassing. Headley is charged with Trespassing, Resisting Arrest, and Assault and Battery on a Police Officer with Injuries.
