At about 2:45 AM on Thursday, September 4, 2014 officers from District C-11 (Dorchester) made an onsite arrest and recovered an illegal firearm as well as a stolen motor vehicle in the area of 1246 Dorchester Avenue in Dorchester.

While on patrol in the area of the above location, officers observed a blue motor vehicle idling in the parking lot of a Sunoco gas station. The vehicle did not have a displayed rear registration plate. Closer inspection of the vehicle revealed a registration plate tucked into the rear windshield. A check of the plate showed to match a gray Mitsubishi Montero, not the black vehicle in which the three individuals had been occupying. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen on September 3, 2014. Officers removed the occupants from the vehicle and placed the operator under arrest. As the operator was handcuffed, officers observed the rear passenger make quick movements as though he had been trying to conceal something under the front passenger’s seat. An inventory of the motor vehicle allowed officers to recover a black Beretta .22 caliber firearm loaded with seven rounds of live ammunition located under the passenger’s seat. Officers then arrested both the front and rear passenger as well.

Officers arrested the 26-year-old operator Darius Sims of Dorchester, the 27-year-old rear passenger, Marquise Scroggins and the 20-year-old front passenger, Asharaye Trusty. Sims is charged with Receiving a Stolen Motor Vehicle, and Attaching Plates. Scroggins is charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Firearm, Dangerous Weapon Unlawfully Carried, Receiving a Stolen Motor Vehicle, and Receiving Stolen Property Over $250. Trusty is charged with Receiving a Stolen Motor Vehicle.
