At about 1:30 AM on Monday, September 8, 2014, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force made an onsite arrest and recovered an illegal firearm in the area of 576 Blue Hill Ave in Roxbury.

While on directed patrol in the area of the above location, officers pulled into the side parking lot which is known to officers as a location where youths tend to congregate and participate in illegal activities. As officers continued their patrol, they observed a group of individuals in the lot. Officers approached the group when they observed one of the group members holding a bottle of alcohol. At this time officers conducted a threshold inquiry of the male during which they discovered a small plastic bag containing a white powder later identified as cocaine. A pat frisk of the individual yielded the recovery of additional illegal narcotics (heroin). The suspect was then placed under arrest. At this time, another member of the group began to walk over to the chair in which the first male had been sitting. The suspect was ordered out of the chair to which he complied. Officers then lifted the cushion of the chair in which the two suspects had been sitting and recovered a .22 caliber H&R chrome revolver loaded with 9 rounds of live ammunition. The second suspect was placed under arrest. Four additional individuals were identified and released at the scene.

Officers arrested the first suspect, 43-year-old Elvin Pena of Dorchester and charged him with Possession of Class B Drugs. The second suspect, 23-year-old Gilbert Rodriguez-Diaz of Dorchester and charged him with Carrying a Firearm without a License, Carrying a Loaded Firearm, Possession of Ammunition, Possession of Class A Drugs, and Drinking in Public.
