One Less Gun: YVSF Officers Arrest Three, Recover Two Firearms in Related Incidents

Firearm from Incident #2

INCIDENT #1: At about 11:40 PM on Friday, October 16, 2015, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force conducted a motor vehicle stop in the area of Bowdoin and Oakley Streets in District C-11 (Dorchester).

While on patrol in the above area, officers observed a motor vehicle with excessive window tint operating on the public way. Officers were able to conduct a stop of the motor vehicle, which was occupied by two males. Upon approaching the vehicle, officers immediately recognized the passenger from previous interactions. As officers examined the vehicle’s window tint, they observed a loaded Jimenez Arms model J.A. Nine 9mm firearm in plain view on the rear seat. Officers seized the firearm, and because neither the driver nor the passenger could produce a License to Carry, both occupants of the vehicle were arrested. Officers also used a tint meter to measure the tint on the car windows and found the tint to be in excess of the legal limit.

The operator, 25-year-old Jobanny Garcia of Dedham, was issued a civil citation for the excessive tint and additionally charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.

The passenger, 21-year-old Tiyreek McAfee of Dorchester, was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm (2nd and Subsequent Offense), and Armed Career Criminal (Level II).

INCIDENT #2: At about 11:45 PM on Friday, October 16, 2015, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force made an onsite arrest of a suspect for firearm related offenses in the area of 61 Ames Street in District B-3 (Mattapan).

While on patrol in the above area, officers recognized a male whom officers had observed hours earlier associating with the two suspects arrested in INCIDENT #1. When officers attempted to speak with this male, he fled into a residence, through a hallway, and out the rear door. Officers were able to stop him in the rear of the residence. Upon retracing the individual’s direction of flight, officers recovered a discarded loaded Ruger P95 firearm from the hallway. Officers noted that no one else had entered the hallway during the incident and none of the residents adjacent to the hallway were at home.

Officers arrested 20-year-old Jayquan Jones of Dorchester and charged him with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm (2nd and Subsequent Offense), and Possession of a High Capacity Feeding Device.
