At about 10:40 AM on Thursday, October 22, 2015, Boston Public School Safety Service officers responded to reports of a firearm at Tech Boston Academy located at 9 Peacevale Road in District B-3 (Mattapan).
Officers were informed by the Dean of Discipline that a student who arrived late for school and attempted to skirt the metal detectors at the school entrance was being subject to an administrative search. Officers looked inside the open, unzipped backpack and observed a black firearm in plain view. When officers attempted to apprehend the student, the student fled from the office and physically and violently resisted the officers. Officers were eventually able to apprehend the student, and the loaded black Mauser .32 caliber handgun was recovered from the backpack.
The 15-year-old male juvenile from Dorchester was arrested and charged with Delinquent to wit; Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Resisting Arrest.
"There is never a good reason to bring a gun to school. Illegal guns have no place on our streets and certainly not in the hands of a child," said Police Commissioner William Evans. "Thanks to the keen observations and quick actions of the school police officers and administrators, a potential tragedy was avoided and one less gun is on the streets."
