Daily Dose of Great Police Work: Lengthy Investigation into Brazen Boston Common Stabbing Leads to Two Arrests


At about 3:30 PM on Thursday, October 8, 2015, officers and detectives from District A-1 (Downtown) responded to a radio call for a stabbing in the area of Park and Tremont Streets.

Upon arrival officers observed an adult male suffering from multiple stab wounds. The victim was transported to Mass General Hospital with serious injuries.

Detectives from District A-1 launched an extensive and exhaustive investigation into this brazen display of violence that occurred on a busy downtown street in broad daylight. By compiling witness statements and physical evidence, the detectives were able to identify two suspects. Detectives applied for and were granted warrants for these suspects.

At about 2:30 PM on October 22, 2015, members of the City-Wide Bicycle Unit were on directed patrol in the area of Mass Ave and Melnea Cass Boulevard in an attempt to locate the above suspects. Officers were able to locate and identify the wanted individuals in the area of 870 Mass Ave.

Officers arrested 31-year-old Robert Zagarella of Boston and charged him with Assault with Intent to Murder. Also arrested was 28-year-old Meggan Durant of Roslindale, and she was charged with Assault and Battery by Means of a Dangerous Weapon. Both suspects will be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court.
