ONE LESS GUN: Officers’ Keen Observations Lead to the Apprehension of an Armed Felon in Dorchester: Officers from District C-11 (Dorchester) confiscated the firearm pictured during a motor vehicle stop in the area of Dever & Bowdoin Streets in Dorchester earlier today. At about 10:40am, on Thursday, October 29, 2015, officers observed a motor vehicle being operated by an individual known to have a suspended license, as well as, several outstanding warrants. Upon seeing the individual, officers activated their lights and sirens in an effort to stop the car. Upon seeing the officers, the operator sped up and then took a quick right turn onto Dever Street. Unfortunately for the operator, Dever Street is a dead-end roadway. While turning onto Dever Street, officers observed the operator quickly exit his vehicle. As a result, officers immediately converged on the suspect. When the suspect asked, “What’s going on?” The officers promptly replied, “You have warrants.” To which, the suspect responded, “I know.” An inventory search of the suspect’s vehicle enabled officers to locate and take possession of a loaded firearm (see photo). Officers arrested Shawn Hewson, 23, of Boston and charged him with the Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Possession of Firearm with Altered Serial Number, Unlawful Possession of a Loaded Firearm and Operating after Suspension. The suspect was also charged on several warrants.
