Great Work Recognized: Several Officers and Detectives Receive Commissioner's Commendations

INCIDENT #1:  On Wednesday July 8, 2015, officers assigned to District A-1 (Downtown) including Sergeant Detective Dwan, Detective Chu and Police Officers Byrne, Flynn, Gamble, Pinto, Jones and Ervin put a plan in motion to take a wanted gang member into custody.  Officers coordinated a joint effort to locate the suspect and set up a perimeter in the area of concern.  Officer Jones and Ervin observed and approached the suspect who immediately fled on foot while clutching at his waistband area.  He was apprehended with the assistance of Officers Byrne and Gamble.  Officer Flynn recovered a firearm which the suspect had discarded as he ran.

The partnership and collaborative effort by these Officers resulted in the apprehension of a violent offender and the safe removal of a firearm from the streets of Charlestown.  For their efforts they are each awarded a Commissioner’s Commendation.

 

 

INCIDENT #2:  On Monday August 10, 2015, Officer Javier Velasquez observed a large fight break out in front of the Cosmopolitan Lounge at 276 Bennington Street.   Officer Velasquez was able to break up the fight and stop a car from leaving the scene which several people had indicated may have a person armed with a firearm inside of it.  After backup arrived, Officer Robert Figueroa being the first on scene, the occupants were removed and it was learned that the operator was carrying a gun and a passenger who had been involved in the fight was wanted on an outstanding warrant.  The operator did produce a License to Carry a Firearm, however it was determined that he was carrying out of restriction.  As a result, the firearm was seized, the operator was summonsed and the passenger was placed in custody.

For their dedication to duty and bravery Officers Velasquez and Figueroa are hereby awarded a Commissioner’s Commendation.
