One Less Gun: Officers Recover Firearm After Shots Fired Incident in Roxbury

At about 5:52 PM, on Tuesday November 10, 2015, officers from District D-4 (South End) responded to a call for shots fired in the area of Sussex & Warwick Streets in Roxbury. Shortly after the shots were reported, a walking beat officer observed a male, later identified as Lupe Oscar Martinez, 18, of New Bedford, nearby and approached him to inquire whether he had seen or heard anything relative to the shots fired.  As the officer approached, the male began clutching at his waistband in such a way as if to suggest he was in possession of a weapon and took off running. The suspect ran through the Lenox Street Housing Development two blocks away and out onto Shawmut Avenue where he was stopped by additional responding units. A search of the area retracing the suspect's direction of flight enabled officers to recover a loaded firearm which the suspect discarded under a bush during the foot pursuit.  The suspect will appear in Roxbury District Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.
