Keeping Boston Safe: DCU Officers Arrest Two and Recover Sawed-Off Shotgun During Search Warrants in East Boston

At about 3:30 PM on Friday, November 20, 2015, members of the District A-7 (East Boston) Drug Control Unit executed three search warrants in the area of 251 Meridian Street.

As a result of an ongoing investigation, officers received and executed several search warrants in the area of the above address. At about 3:30 PM, officers set up surveillance on the targets of their search warrants, 24-year-old Jeffrey Lugo and a 21-year-old male, both of East Boston. About a half an hour later, officers were able to stop both targets in a motor vehicle. Officers informed the suspects of the search warrants and performed a preliminary search of their persons on site. The suspects were then escorted to the target location for execution of the third search warrant.

During the execution of the warrant, officers recovered the following:

  • One 12-gauge sawed-off shotgun
  • One spent round of shotgun ammunition
  • One live round of shotgun ammunition
  • Five individually wrapped bags of crack cocaine
  • Less than one ounce of marijuana
  • Various drug paraphernalia consistent with distribution
  • Over $600 in US currency

Officers arrested Lugo and charged him with Possession of Class B Drugs with Intent to Distribute. Due to the location of the shotgun and ammunition in the residence, an arrest warrant will be sought for the 21-year-old male for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition. A third party present in the residence during the warrant was issued a civil citation for Possession of Less than One Ounce of Marijuana.
