Great Work Recognized: Congratulations to Commissioner Commendation Recipient Officer Michael McHugh

Great Work Recognized: Congratulations to Commissioner Commendation Recipient Officer Michael McHugh: On Saturday, November 7, 2015 Officer McHugh was approached by a witness reporting that a man had been stabbed in the area of 34 Boylston Street.

Officer McHugh was solely provided with a description  of the victim and his direction of travel. The officer took this information and his familiarity with video surveillance cameras in the area to St. Francis House where he viewed video footage of the suspect exiting the St. Francis House and getting into an altercation with the victim. Both suspect and victim fled the area after the altercation.

Officer McHugh was able to provide this additional information to officers in the area who located the victim a distance away on Harrison Avenue.  He was suffering from a severe 5" gash to  his left cheek; he was uncooperative.

Not much later Officer McHugh observed a person fitting the suspect image on the video footage he had viewed at the St. Francis House. The male was placed in handcuffs and secured. Officer McHugh then traveled back to the St.Francis House and the nearby Ritz Hotel to re-examine the video —solidifying the male as the assailant.  The suspect is a career criminal with substantial arrests, convictions and substantial time served. His arrests include Assault and Battery with Dangerous Weapons, Assault to Kill and numeric drug charges.

Since becoming the permanent walking beat in the area of Boylston Street and Tremont Street, Officer McHugh has been a consistent positive presence in the area and has made numerous arrests for a multitude of serious crimes. This particular incident likely prevented future acts of violence by this suspect.

For his efforts Officer McHugh is hereby awarded a Commissioner's Commendation.
