One Less Gun: BPD Officers Recover Loaded Firearm, Arrest Two Known Suspects After Traffic Stop in Dorchester

At about 12:15 PM on Saturday, December 19, 2015, officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force arrested two known suspects on firearm and drug charges in the area of 150 Norwell Street in District B-3 (Mattapan).

Officers were in the area on an unrelated investigation when they observed the two suspects, Tyshawn Cummings, 20, of Dorchester and Dijoun Beasley, 19, of Dorchester, emerge from a residence on Norfolk Street that they had been monitoring. Officers noted that Cummings was clutching at the right side of his waist band area in an attempt to cover an unknown object. Officers had arrested both of the suspects in the past on firearm related charges during two separate incidents. Officers watched as the two suspects entered a taxi cab and followed it until it committed a traffic infraction on Norwell Street at which time they performed a traffic stop. As the officers approached the taxi from behind, they observed both suspects looking around nervously and observed Beasley suddenly duck down out of sight. Officers quickly removed both suspects and recovered a loaded Beretta 9mm handgun with an obliterated serial number from the floor of the cab passenger area. Both suspects were then placed in custody without incident.  Officers later recovered seven bags of crack cocaine packaged for sale from Beasley.

Both men will appear in Dorchester District Court.  Beasley has been charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Firearm, Possession of a Firearm with an Obliterated Serial Number, Subsequent Firearm Charge and Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B Drugs. Cummings has been charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Firearm and Possession of a Firearm with an Obliterated Serial Number.

The officers later returned to the address on Norfolk Street and arrested the target of their initial investigation who was wanted on an outstanding warrant.
