Keeping Boston Safe: Officers Assist Citizens after Two Separate Armed Robberies in Dorchester

INCIDENT #1: At approximately 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 20, 2015, officers from District C-11 (Dorchester) responded to a radio call for an armed robbery in the area of 1440 Dorchester Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers met with the victim who stated he was just robbed on Dorchester Avenue. The victim was getting into his car when the suspect stopped him, pressed a firearm into his rib and said, "Give me the money."

The victim told officers he gave the suspect money and his iPhone, after which the suspect fled on a black bicycle. Officers canvassed the area and observed an individual fitting the description walking with a black bicycle on Bowdoin Street.

Officers approached the individual who said he had just come out of his residence and directed the officers to the back door of the building. Officers located the victim's cell phone and a black pellet gun in the area that the suspect had indicated.

The suspect, 18-year-old Jaquan Barrows of Dorchester, was subsequently arrested and charged with Armed Robbery.

INCIDENT #2: At approximately 2:00 a.m. on Monday, December 21, 2015, officers from District C-11 (Dorchester) responded to a radio call for an assault and battery in progress in the area of 34 Bellevue Street, Dorchester.

While en-route, officers were notified by dispatch that five armed robbery suspects had fled on Bellevue Street toward Quincy Street. The victim, still on-scene, told the officers that a group of five males—two displaying firearms—had assaulted him, stolen his phone and car keys, and fled. The victim reported they used his keys to steal his vehicle that had been parked nearby.

Meanwhile, other responding officers had engaged in a foot pursuit with one of the suspects and eventually stopped him on Hamilton Street. Due to the violent nature of the call, officers conducted a pat frisk of the suspect for weapons and subsequently recovered the victim's cellphone. Additional officers were able to recover the victim's vehicle parked in the area of Quincy Street and Fernald Terrace.

The suspect was identified as 19-year-old James Howard of Dorchester. He was arrested and charged with Armed Robbery, Larceny of a Motor Vehicle, and Receiving Stolen Goods.
