MESSAGE FROM POLICE COMMISSIONER WILLIAM EVANS RELATIVE TO THE ARREST OF JAMES DEREPENTIGNY: I want to commend all of my officers for their professional, coordinated and quick response to today’s incident and the ensuing investigation relative to the suspicious package left in area of 406 Atlantic Avenue. Within hours of the original call, BPD’s detectives assigned to the Boston Regional Intelligence Center (BRIC) had secured surveillance video of the suspect which was promptly disseminated to the public through the BPD’s social media channels in an effort to enlist the public’s help in our efforts to identify and locate the suspect. In short time, detectives received several tips connecting the suspect to Lawrence. Armed with this information, BPD detectives immediately contacted members of the Lawrence Police Department who were able to locate and apprehend James Derepentigny in Lawrence. I wish to thank all who made this arrest possible. I especially want to acknowledge the community members who provided and shared the crucial information that lead to the arrest of this suspect. We’re all in this together when it comes to keeping our city safe and we all have a role to play.
