Great Work Recognized: Commissioner’s Commendations Presented to Officers Brian Carlson, Daniel Conway and Stephen Shields from District B-2: At about 1:30am, on February 21, 2015, officers responded to a call for a loud party at 6 Centre Street. On arrival, the officers observed a gray sedan speeding on a roadway that was filled with pedestrians walking. As a result, officers conducted a traffic stop. The suspect produced a license but could not find the registration. While talking to the operator, the officers observed and noted that the operator was holding in his other hand a bag containing what looked to be a Class D drug. Moreover, officers noted and observed the suspect repeatedly touching an object in his right pants pocket. Believing that the suspect was in possession of a weapon or additional contraband, officers asked the suspect to exit the vehicle. As he exited the car, officers observed a black bag protruding from his left coat pocket. When asked about the contents of the bag, the suspect refused to answer and made a quick move to grasp or grab the bag. At this point, officers promptly subdued the suspect. A search of the bag enabled officers to discover and take possession of a semi-automatic firearm complete with a high capacity feeding device. A second suspect inside the car was arrested and charged with Possession of Class B Drug. For keeping our city and citizens safe and possibly preventing an act of violence with the arrest of an armed felon, Officers Brian Carlson, Daniel Conway and Stephen Shields are each awarded a Commissioner’s Commendation.
