One Less Gun: BPD Officers Arrest One and Seize a Gun in Dorchester

At about 10:50pm, on Tuesday, March 10, 2015, officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force were on patrol in the area of Erie & Greenwood Streets when officers observed a motor vehicle travelling without its headlights on. Seeing this, officers activated their lights and sirens in an effort to stop the car. In short time, officers observed the car quickly come to a stop in the area of 43 Hewins Street. When asked to produce a license and registration, the operator of the vehicle was unable to. While officers were talking to the operator of the car, a cell phone was heard ringing in the back seat. The rear seat passenger informed officers that the ringing phone belonged to him and asked if he could answer it. After granting the passenger permission to answer his phone, officers watched the suspect reach into his jacket to retrieve it. As the passenger was retrieving his phone, officers observed the suspect moving in such a way as if to suggest he was in possession of a firearm. When officers attempted to look into the back seat, the passenger moved his body to inhibit their ability to view the entire backseat area. However, despite the suspect’s efforts to hamper their view of the backseat, officers observed what appeared to be a dark gray-colored automatic firearm on the rear floor. Upon seeing the gun, officers quickly instructed the occupants to exit the vehicle. A search of the car enabled officers to recover a firearm (see photo) described as an Intratec 9mm Luger, Model AB-10.

Officers arrested Shawn Peete, 45, of Dorchester and charged him with the Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Firearm, Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device and Possession of a Firearm with an Obliterated Serial Number.
