One Less Gun: City Wide Drug Control Unit Prevents Shooting Retaliation, Recovers Illegal Firearm During Search Warrant

At about 4:30 AM on Thursday, March 5, 2015, members of the City Wide Drug Control Unit with the assistance of BPD SWAT executed two search warrants in the area of 10 Lesher Street in District E-5 (West Roxbury).

The members of the City Wide DCU had become aware of this location due to reports of drug activity, including usage and sales, in the area. They also learned that one suspect in particular had been heavily involved in a feud with members of a rival street gang leading to a shooting at an area residence, and the suspect subsequently purchased a firearm illegally for retaliation.

Equipped with this knowledge, officers executed two search warrants early Thursday morning. As a result, officers recovered a loaded Raven Arms Model P-25 semiautomatic firearm, one large plastic bag of what appeared to be marijuana, one marijuana plant in a makeshift grow area, drug paraphernalia, and additional ammunition.

The target of the search warrants, 19-year-old Anderson Vargas of Roslindale, was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Improper Storage of a Firearm, and Possession with Intent to Distribute Class D Substance (Marijuana).
