Media Availability: Boston Police Runners Club to Donate Monies Raised during the Boston Marathon to Help Fund Scholarship in Memory of Ryan Morrissey 

WHO: Boston Police Commissioner William Evans, Boston Police Runners Club, Boys & Girls Club of Charlestown, friends and family of Ryan Morrissey, Scholarship Recipients, Operation Progress, Boston Marathon Runners Running for the Charlestown Boys and Girls Club.

WHAT: On November 5, 2014, 17 year-old Ryan Morrissey was a young man minding his own business when in an apparent case of mistaken identity he was shot and killed outside a Charlestown convenience store. Less than a year after the senseless murder, the Boys & Girls Club of Charlestown, Operation Progress Boston and Boston Police Runners Club have joined together to establish a scholarship fund in Ryan’s memory. This year, inaugural scholarships will be presented to two upstanding members of the Charlestown Boys and Girls Club who have displayed an ability and desire to be difference makers in their community. The Boston Police Runners Club will be presenting a $50,000 check to Operation Progress Boston for scholarships to be presented in memory of Ryan Morrissey. Operation Progress is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide financial assistance, mentoring and help to young people who desire to go to college.
