Today, Saturday, April 18, 2015, two days before the running of the 119th Boston Marathon, Boston Police Commissioner William Evans ran the Boston Athletic Association 5K for Team MR8, a charitable foundation formed after 8-year-old Martin Richard was killed in the Boston Marathon Bombings on April 15, 2013.

Although the Commissioner (an avid marathoner) has chosen to forgo running this year’s 26.2 miles on Monday in the name of protecting the city, he had some extremely stiff competition in today’s, shorter race around the Back Bay—both the men’s and women’s American 5K records were broken today.

Pictured above are the Commissioner and the male and female winners crossing the 5K finish line!
