As many of you may know, April is Autism Awareness Month, and the 8th Annual World Autism Awareness Day is Thursday, April 2, 2015. To start the month, members of the Boston Police Department took part in “Light It up Blue,” a global initiative that kicks off Autism Awareness Month to help promote mindfulness of autism. In honor of this historic day, many iconic landmarks, hotels, sporting venues, concert halls, museums, bridges, and retail stores are among the hundreds of thousands of homes and communities that take part in “Light It up Blue.”
This is the third year in a row that Boston Police Headquarters is going blue. Last night, those visiting headquarters after dark could see the front of the building illuminated in blue. Today, Thursday, April 2, 2015, Commissioner William Evans encouraged all department members to wear the color blue (which was not difficult for most of us!), and those who did joined him for a group photo at the Boston Police Memorial to show the BPD’s support for Autism Awareness.
