Daily Dose of Great Police Work: Fleeing Skateboarders No Match for Speedy Officers

At about 7:25 PM on Tuesday, April 7, 2015, officers from District A-1 (Downtown) were flagged down in the area of 50 Sudbury Street for an assault that had just occurred in front of the Dunkin Donuts near the Haymarket MBTA Station.

An MBTA operator quickly pointed out two males who assaulted a 53-year-old victim with their skateboards after the victim accidently bumped into them in the Dunkin Donuts. As officers approached, the suspects mounted their skateboards and attempted to flee. Officers ordered the suspects to stop, but they did not comply and continued to flee. Officers pursued the suspects, and after a brief chase, a struggle ensued before the first suspect was taken into custody at Causeway and Beverly Streets. The second suspect was apprehended near Canal Street and Valenti Way. Both males were positively identified as the suspects who struck the victim with their skateboards. The victim was transported to Mass General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Both suspects, 19-year-old Corey Deltufo of Boston and 24-year-old Tommy G. Gedeus of Chelsea, were arrested and charged with Assault and Battery by means of a Dangerous Weapon (Skateboard). During the booking process, officers recovered almost $500 in US currency and a black plastic bag containing two clear plastic bags of a substance believed to be marijuana from Gedeus. He was additionally charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Class D Drugs (Marijuana).
