Daily Dose of Great Police Work: BPD Officers Respond to a Report of a Student Bringing Weapons to School

At about 10:00 AM on Wednesday April 8, 2015, officers from the Boston Police School Unit responded to the Higginson-Lewis K-8 School in Roxbury when it was learned that an eleven year-old student had brought weapons into the school.

Officers spoke with the student who stated that she had brought a pink taser (see photo) and a folding pocket knife to school in an attempt to impress her classmates. A teacher heard the sound of the taser being activated and quickly intervened to take custody of the weapon.  No students were harmed during the incident.  The knife and the Vipertek Personal Protection Taser were taken to District B-2 (Roxbury) and turned in as evidence.

The child is facing a suspension from school but no criminal charges have been filed at this time.  School officials met with the child’s mother and set forth a mandatory plan for counseling and intervention.  Officers are referring the child and her family to the department’s Youth Connect program which will provide additional services and counseling moving forward.
