Daily Dose Of Great Police Work: Three Loaded Guns Recovered From One Vehicle During Traffic Stop

At about 7:13 PM on Friday May 8, 2015, officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) recovered three loaded firearms from inside a motor vehicle after a traffic stop.  Officers were on patrol in the area of 11 Ceylon Street when they observed a motor vehicle operating with an invalid inspection sticker and missing it’s a front license plate.  Officers stopped the vehicle and approached to speak with the operator about the minor infractions when the driver’s side door suddenly opened.  The operator, later identified as Jean Almodovar-Baez, 20, of Revere, stated to officers that his windows could not be put down.  With the door now open, officers were able to observe two more males inside the vehicle, one in the front passenger seat and one in the rear passenger area.  The rear passenger was later identified as Derrel CJ Graham, 20, of Roxbury.  The front passenger, later identified as a 17-year-old male from Cambridge, was observed quickly grabbing for and clutching a backpack which was between his legs several times while behaving in a nervous manner.  Fearing that the passenger was reaching for a weapon, the officers removed all the men from the car and performed pat frisks of each of them, the backpack and the vehicle.  Officers recovered a loaded Colt .22 (LR) caliber revolver from inside the top of the backpack where the front passenger had been reaching.  Officers also recovered a loaded .38 Special revolver from the center console of the vehicle and a Sig Sauer semi-automatic handgun in the rear pocket of the front passenger seat.  Officers found a large amount of ammunition on the juvenile male and a small amount of a white powdered substance believed to be cocaine on Amodovar-Baez.

Almodovar-Baez was arrested and will be charged with Two Counts of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Two Counts of Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Possession of Gun with Defaced Serial Number and Possession with Intent to Distribute Class D.

The juvenile male was arrested and will be charged with Delinquent to Wit: Two Counts of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Four Counts of Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Possession of Gun with Defaced Serial Number and Possession with Intent to Distribute Class D. It was revealed during the booking process that the juvenile was wanted on outstanding warrants sought out of Middlesex County Juvenile Court for Open and Gross Lewdness, Assault and Battery and Trespassing.

Graham was arrested and will be charged with Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm and Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device.

All suspects are scheduled to appear in Roxbury District Court.
