One Less Gun: Concerned Citizen Leads Officers to Recover Stolen Firearm

At about 10:30 AM on Tuesday, May 12, 2015, members of the District B-3 (Mattapan) Drug Control Unit received information from a concerned citizen that a sawed-off shotgun was in a black bag in the Morton Street Housing Development. The officers set up surveillance in the area of Morton Street and Woodmere Street and, within a few minutes, recovered an abandoned black bag near 981 Morton Street. The bag contained a sawed-off Mossberg 20-gauge shotgun and magazine. Further investigation revealed the firearm had been reported stolen out of Fresno County California in 2006. Officers recovered the shotgun for further processing and investigation.

To the citizen who prevented a dangerous weapon from falling into the wrong hands, we commend you and say thank you!
