On Monday May 18, 2015, officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force were invited to attend the Mather School for the America SCORES Boston after school soccer program. America SCORES is a program which begins in elementary school and continues on into high school which offers programs that develop skills surrounding health, academics and self-expression. Students in grades three to five were asked to complete a community service project as part of the program. They decided they wanted to invite police, fire, EMS and veterans to the schoolyard to thank them for their service. They wrote poems and made signs of support. Officers gave out police patches, many words of encouragement and even a few high fives.
