Today, Sunday, May 24, 2015, approximately 11,000 runners joined Boston Police Commissioner William Evans and the Boston Police Department Runner’s Club in the 11th Annual Run to Remember. During this Memorial Day Weekend half marathon and 5 mile run through historic downtown Boston, participants pay tribute, celebrate, and remember fallen heroes who have given their lives in the line of duty.
In addition to running the half marathon, Commissioner Evans welcomed all runners in the opening ceremonies prior to the National Anthem performed by Boston Police Officer Kim Tavares and a flyover by the Mass State Police Air Wing helicopter.
Our photographer captured several different groups "running to remember," including the NYPD Runner’s Club, officers from LAPD, the Mass Transit Police Recruit Class, and Team Hoyt.
Said Commissioner Evans, "This is a great turnout, and this is what Memorial Day is all about--honoring our heroes. This is the first weekend of summer, and I can't think of a better way to start it out."
