Boston Police Officers made the streets of Boston safer last night by recovering three illegal firearms and arresting two suspects in three separate incidents. The facts and circumstances of those incidents are as follows:
INCIDENT #1: At about 6:35 PM on Thursday, May 7, 2015, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force affected an onsite arrest of an individual carrying a firearm in the area of Brookway and Elven Roads in Roslindale in District E-5 (West Roxbury).
While on patrol in the above area, officers observed a group of males gathered around a park bench. As officers approached in their cruiser, a male on a bike signaled to the group that the officers were coming. As he did so, two males became hyper-vigilant and broke away from the group, walking at a rapid pace. One of the males made an attempt to evade the officers while gripping a heavy object in his right front pocket. Officers stopped the individual and a pat frisk revealed a loaded Glock 27 Gen 4 firearm in the suspect’s front pocket.
Officers arrested 21-year-old Marshawn A. Potts of Dorchester and charged him with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Carrying a Loaded Firearm. Potts also had an active outstanding warrant.
INCIDENT #2: At about 10:35 PM on Thursday, May 7, 2015, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) responded to a radio call for a group of kids tossing a firearm back and forth in the area of 160 Ruggles Street.
Upon arrival, officers observed a group of males fitting the description given by the caller. While officers spoke with the group, another officer investigated the surrounding area and found an abandoned backpack in a common area of a nearby address. When no one in the residence claimed the property, officers conducted a pat frisk of the bag and felt a hard object in the shape of a firearm. Officers recovered and seized an Arminius .22 caliber revolver from the backpack. All individuals in the group were identified and released.
INCIDENT #3: At about 4:40 AM on Friday, May 8, 2015, members of the BPD Special Investigations Unit with the assistance of the BPD SWAT Team executed a search warrant in the area of Southern Avenue and Ferndale Street in District B-3 (Mattapan).
As a result of the search warrant, officers recovered the following:
- Approximately 7 pounds of marijuana

- One loaded Norinco 9mm semi-automatic firearm
