One Less Gun: Officers Recover Loaded Firearm After Lengthy Foot Pursuit in Roxbury

At about 6:44 PM on Tuesday, June 9, 2015, officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force (YVSF) made an on-site arrest and recovered a loaded firearm in the area of Winthrop Street in Roxbury after a lengthy foot pursuit.

Officers were responding to a radio call for a person with a gun running down Washington Street near the District B-2 (Roxbury) police station when they came upon a person matching the given description carrying a firearm in his right hand.  Officers from the YVSF and two members of the Boston Police SWAT Team who were on patrol at the time of the incident converged on the suspect who attempted to evade officers by running through several neighborhood backyards and jumping chain link fences during the pursuit.  During the entirety of the foot pursuit, officers could see the firearm clearly displayed in the suspect's right hand.  Officers were able to catch up to the suspect, later identified as a 15 year old juvenile male from Roxbury, placing him in custody in the rear of a residence on Winthrop Street.  Officers then recovered a loaded Sig Sauer Mosquito Firearm nearby which the suspect had discarded just prior to being apprehended.  The officers displayed remarkable restraint during the capture of the armed suspect.

The juvenile male will appear in Roxbury District Court and will be charged with Delinquent to Wit: Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Delinquent to Wit: Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Delinquent to Wit: Unlawful Carrying of a Loaded Firearm and Trespassing.
