One Less Gun: Officers Arrest Two Suspects, Recover Two Firearms after Lengthy Pursuit in Roxbury

At about 2:20 AM on Thursday, June 11, 2015, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) responded to a radio call for a person with a gun in the area of 25 Warren Street in Roxbury.

While en route to the call, operations notified officers that two suspects had pulled a gun on the victim and were fleeing the scene in a red Honda Civic. Officers observed this car in the area and activated their cruiser’s emergency equipment (blue lights and siren) in an attempt to conduct a stop of the motor vehicle. The occupants not only refused to stop the car, but they continued to operate the vehicle at a high rate of speed and ignore all traffic signs and signals through a densely populated area of Roxbury.

After a lengthy vehicle pursuit, the driver and the passenger bailed out of the car and continued to flee on foot. As the passenger ran from police, officers observed a large black firearm in his hand. After ignoring officers’ numerous orders to drop the weapon, the suspect finally discarded the firearm in an alley as he continued to flee. The suspect was apprehended when officers found him hiding beneath a car a short distance away. Officers recovered the discarded firearm—a loaded .45 caliber Beretta PX4 Storm firearm with obliterated serial numbers.

The operator of the vehicle was also apprehended after a brief foot pursuit. A witness advised officers that a second firearm was discarded by the operator. Officers recovered a Jimenez Arms J.A. Nine 9mm handgun from a pile of mulch a short distance from the location of the first weapon.

The operator, 25-year-old Tony Mosely of Norton, was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Possession of a Firearm with Obliterated Serial Numbers, Resisting Arrest, Assault by means of a Dangerous Weapon (Gun), Failure to Stop for Police, Driving to Endanger, and Operating after Driver’s License Suspended/Revoked.

The passenger, 19-year-old Kelvin Thames of Dorchester, was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Firearm, Possession of a Firearm with Obliterated Serial Numbers, Resisting Arrest, and Assault by means of a Dangerous Weapon (Gun).
