One Less Gun: Drug Control Unit Officers Make Several Arrests and Recover Three Firearms in Two Separate Incidents

INCIDENT #1: At about 9:00 PM on Tuesday, June 16, 2015, members of the District B-3 (Mattapan) Drug Control Unit recovered a firearm in the area of Harvard Street and Johnson Road in Dorchester.

Officers received information from a concerned citizen that there was a sawed-off shotgun in a multicolored bag in the above location. Armed with this information, officers set up surveillance in the area and within minutes recovered a multicolored bag containing one Coach 12-gauge sawed-off shotgun with six live rounds of ammunition. Detectives processed the firearm and the incident is to be further investigated.

INCIDENT #2: At about 1:10 PM on Tuesday, June 16, 2015, members of the City-Wide Drug Control Unit executed two search warrants in the area of 29 Cunningham Street in District B-2 (Roxbury).

As a result of the a motor vehicle stop, the target of the search warrants, 23-year-old Carnell Solomon of Dorchester, was arrested for Operating a Motor Vehicle after Driver’s License Suspended/Revoked. During the arrest, officers also investigated a motor vehicle that appeared to be following closely behind that of Solomon and subsequently arrested 26-year-old Charles Key of Cambridge for Operating a Motor Vehicle after Driver’s License Suspended/Revoked.

As a result of the search warrant for the target’s residence, officers recovered the following:

  • One loaded black Llama .380 semiautomatic firearm
  • Additional ammunition
  • Several plastic bags of substance believed to be marijuana
  • Several plastic bags of substance believed to be crack cocaine
  • Approximately $3,000 in US currency
  • Additional drug paraphernalia

Also present at the residence was 20-year-old Cartrell Solomon of Dorchester, and he was arrested on an outstanding warrant for Operating a Motor Vehicle after License Suspended/Revoked.

While in the execution of the search warrant, 22-year-old Nadeo Mason of Dorchester knocked on the door of the residence and was subsequently found in possession of a Smith & Wesson .357 Revolver and six rounds of ammunition. He was also found to have seven arrest warrants. Officers placed Mason under arrest and charged him with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and the seven outstanding warrants.

Carnell Solomon was additionally charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Improper Storage of a Firearm, Possession with Intent to Distribute Class D Drugs, and Possession with Intent to Distribute Class C Drugs. Cartrell Solomon was additionally charged with Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.
