Media Availability/Photo Opportunity: BPD Officers to Appoint 7-Year-Old Divan Silva to the Position of Honorary Jr. Boston Police Officer   

WHO: Chief William Gross, Divan Silva, Sgt. Samil Silta, Officer Moose Monteiro and members of the Cape Verdean Police Officers Association

WHAT: On Sunday, May 24, 2015, 7-year-old Divan Silva was struck by a stray bullet as he rode his bike on the sidewalk in the area of 296 Bowdoin Street in Dorchester. After sustaining a non-life threatening gunshot wound, Divan was transported to Boston Children’s Hospital where he remained for several days while receiving treatment for his injury. Tomorrow, Sunday, June 21, 2015, in addition to honoring and recognizing Divan for his tremendous bravery and courage, the men and women of the Boston Police Department will name Divan an honorary Jr. Boston Police Officer. The Boston Police Department continues to actively investigate the facts and circumstances surrounding this incident.
