Boston Officer Tenders Resignation After Being Charged with Making A False Statement to the FBI

Today, Thursday, June 25, 2015, Boston Police Officer David Fitzgerald, a 19 year veteran, submitted his resignation to Commissioner Evans as part of a plea agreement filed in Federal Court. Fitzgerald was charged with making a false statement to investigators during an ongoing investigation.

“I am always troubled when a member of my department is the subject of any criminal investigation. The Boston Police Department has been an active partner with the United States Attorney’s Office throughout this entire case,” said Commissioner Evans. “The Boston Police fully cooperated with Federal investigators as it is of the utmost importance that any officer who is involved in criminal actively is appropriately investigated and sanctioned for their conduct.”

As part of the plea agreement, there will be a joint recommendation to the Court that Fitzgerald be placed on probation for one year.
