BPD Proudly Participate in Opening Night Ceremonies for the 2015 Massachusetts Special Olympic Summer Games at Boston University: Over the weekend, members of the Boston Police Department were asked and enthusiastically accepted an invitation to participate in Opening Night Ceremonies for the 2015 Massachusetts Special Olympic Summer Games held at Boston University’s Nickerson Field. Members of the BPD Gaelic Column, Honor Guard and Motorcycle Units – along with other area law enforcement officers– proudly lead the procession of athletes into Nickerson Field prior to the lighting of the ceremonial torch which – of course - signals the official opening of the Special Olympic Summer games. Our officers were honored and humbled to be part of such an extraordinary event. Special thanks to Captain Wayne Lanchester of District D-14 (Brighton), Lt. Martin Brooks and all of the officers from District D-14 for their help and support at this year’s games. Said Chief William Gross, “You’ll find no bigger supporter of Massachusetts Special Olympics than the BPD. We love the athletes and everything they represent. It was an honor for our officers to participate in the opening night ceremony and we look forward to helping out again next year.”
