One Less Gun: BPD Officers Arrest Two, Recover Two Loaded Guns After Shots Fired in Dorchester

At about 10:16 PM on Tuesday July 14, 2015, officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force made two arrests and recovered two loaded firearms after a shots fired incident near 75 Bowdoin Street in Dorchester.  Officers were on patrol in the area when they heard gunfire erupt.  Officers observed a male suspect, later identified as Justin Martin, 21, of Georgia, running down the street with a gun in his hand.  Officers chased the suspect, who turned and pointed the gun at them, as this was happening, a second suspect began to fire multiple times at the officers.  Officers fired at the original suspect but did not strike him – officers were then able to take the suspect to the ground and place him in custody at which time they recovered a loaded .22 caliber handgun.   As they placed the suspect in custody, the officers were approached by a juvenile male who was holding a loaded .25 caliber handgun.  Officers quickly subdued the second armed suspect and placed him in custody.  It was not clear if the juvenile male was the same suspect who had fired at the officers during the initial pursuit.

Both parties will appear in Dorchester District Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Carrying a Loaded Firearm.  Additionally, Martin will be charged with two counts of Assault by means of a Dangerous Weapon (Gun).
