Earlier tonight, Wednesday, July 15, 2015, Commissioner Evans stopped by the St. Peter’s Teen Center on Bowdoin Street in Dorchester to toss up the opening jump ball in a game pitting officers assigned to the BPD’s Youth Violence Strike Force against a team of young people from the neighborhood. The St. Peter’s Teen Center has been helping and supporting kids in Dorchester for years by giving them a place to go and play throughout the summer. As you can well imagine, tonight was less about the final score and more about making friends, building trust and letting the kids know that our officers are always around to lend an ear or extend a helping hand. It’s called community policing. And for the BPD – it’s a passion, not a pastime.
