One Less Gun: Officers Recover Three Firearms in Three Separate Incidents in Dorchester and Roxbury

Incident #1: At about 9:40 AM on Friday, July 17, 2015, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force executed a search warrant in the area of 38 Rosemont Street in District C-11 (Dorchester).

Upon making a peaceful entry, officers recovered a Ruger .45 caliber firearm, 50 rounds of ammunition, approximately 11 grams of crack cocaine, approximately 5 grams of heroin, and approximately $1,500 in US currency.

Officers arrested 23-year-old Winston Sanders of Dorchester for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Possession with Intent to Distribute Class A (Heroin), Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B (Cocaine).

Incident #2: At about 11:40 AM on Friday, July 17, 2015, members of the District C-6 (South Boston) Drug Control Unit executed a search warrant for the body of a known street gang associate in the area of Normandy and Stanwood Streets in District B-2 (Roxbury).

The DCU officers, working together with members of the YVSF, were able to make contact with the target of the investigation at the above address. Officers advised the individual of the search warrant and subsequently recovered a black loaded Smith & Wesson MP9 9mm handgun from the suspect’s waistband. The suspect could not produce a license to carry a firearm. The officers also discovered that the firearm had been reported stolen in 2013. Execution of the warrant for the suspect’s residence yielded 5-10 grams of crack cocaine, approximately $1,000 in US currency, and drug paraphernalia.

Officers placed 24-year-old Christopher Bonaventure of Boston under arrest and charged him with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Firearm, and Buying/Receiving/Possessing Stolen Property (Firearm).

Incident #3: At about 2:00 PM on Friday, July 17, 2015, members of the YVSF observed a known gang associate in a vehicle with another unknown male outside of Dorchester District Court. As officers approached the vehicle to speak with the two individuals, the unknown male fled on foot. As the officers gave chase, they observed the male to have what appeared to be a firearm in his hand. The male ran through several backyards, eventually discarding the firearm onto the roof of a garage in the area of 21 Wheatland Avenue. Officers were able to apprehend the male. A loaded .40 caliber Glock 27 handgun was recovered from the garage roof.

Officers arrested 19-year-old Giovani Selman-Wiggins of Dorchester for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Firearm, Possession of a Firearm with Obliterated Serial Numbers, Trespassing, and Resisting Arrest.
