At about 2:47pm, on Friday, July 24, 2015, officers from District C-11 (Dorchester) were on patrol in the area of Roseland Street when officers observed a white motor vehicle travelling with a defective brake light (left side). Upon seeing the violation, officers activated their emergency equipment (lights & sirens) and stopped the car on Santuit Street. While approaching the car, officers detected an odor of marijuana and observed that there were two individuals occupying the vehicle. While looking into the vehicle, officers observed the front passenger, who was wearing a hooded sweatshirt despite the warm temps, moving his hands in such a way as if to suggest he was attempting to hide something. While talking to the operator and passenger, officers noted that both appeared to be nervous and anxious in light of the fact that both were breathing heavily and fidgeting around. When asked if there was any more marijuana in the car, the passenger acknowledged that there was and even encouraged the officers to search the car. While talking to the passenger, officers continued to instruct and insist that the passenger keep his hands in front of his body and in a place where officers could see them. When the passenger kept trying to move his hands behind his back, officers asked the suspect to exit the car in order to conduct a pat frisk of the suspect for weapons. Once outside the car, the suspect initially complied with the pat frisk, but then pulled away from the officer, pulled a black firearm out of his waist area, tossed it to the ground and took off running. After a short foot pursuit, officers were able to overtake and apprehend the suspect. Officers recovered the loaded firearm tossed by the suspect. The firearm, which was a black Ceska Zbrojovka CZ82, was also found to have an unreadable serial number.
Officers arrested a 15 year-old juvenile male of Dorchester and charged him with the Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Possession of Firearm with an Altered Serial Number, Carrying a Loaded Firearm on a Public Way and Resisting Arrest.
