One Less Gun: BPD Officers Arrest Known Suspect Armed with Machine Gun in Dorchester

At about 9:00 PM on Friday August 14, 2015, officers assigned to the City Wide Drug Control Unit made an onsite firearm arrest in the area of 143 Intervale Street in District B-2 (Roxbury).  Officers were on directed patrol in response to recent gang activity and gun violence in the area.

Officers observed two males who were known to them walking down the street and approached to speak with them.  Upon seeing the officers, one of the two men, Tyriq Wiggins, 20, of Roxbury, suddenly sprinted away from them while clutching at his waistband area.  Officers were able to stop the suspect after a brief foot pursuit and quickly recover an Intertec Tec-9 machine gun from his waistband.  The suspect was then placed in custody.  During the booking process, officers recovered a bag of heroin and three bags of crack cocaine.

The suspect will appear in Roxbury District Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Machine Gun, Carrying a Machine Gun on a Public Way, Possession of a Firearm with an Obliterated Serial Number, Possession of a High Capacity Feeding Device, Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B Drugs, Possession of Class A Drugs and Armed Career Criminal.
