One Less Gun: Juvenile Arrested After Shots Fired in Roxbury

At about 9:18 PM on Friday, August 14, 2015, an officer assigned to District D-4 (South End) was on routine patrol when he heard the sound of gunshots in the area of Ruggles and Whittier Streets near Boston Police Headquarters.  The officer then observed two male suspects running on Tremont Street, one of them clutching at his waistband.  When the officer observed the two suspects jump a fence and run through a parking lot towards Melnea Cass Boulevard, he cut off their path of flight and attempted to stop them.  One of them, a 15-year-old juvenile, stopped and was immediately placed in custody.  The second suspect, a 16-year-old juvenile, continued to run while clutching at his waistband.  The officer observed the second suspect discard a black metal object while he was fleeing which was later recovered and determined to be a loaded Browning semi-automatic firearm.  The second suspect was quickly apprehended and placed in custody in the rear of 1050 Tremont Street by additional responding units.

The 16-year-old juvenile was arrested and will appear in Boston Juvenile Court on charges of Delinquent to wit: Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Delinquent to wit: Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Delinquent to wit: Dangerous Weapons Unlawfully Carried.

The 15-year-old juvenile was later released to his parents.
